The Story
I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor siThe Prada Fall/Winter 2012-13 menswear collection was remarkably different. Instead of traditional fashion models, acclaimed Hollywood actors walked the runway.
When a model walks, the clothes stand alone as a beautiful product. But the moment an actor walks, people immediately begin to project a narrative onto the garments.
When Gary Oldman appeared, enveloped in that magnificent, austere coat, a cinematic scene instantly flashed in my mind. Looking at him, I couldn’t help but wish: “I want him to escape into the night with a woman wearing a red dress!”
The couple who passed me in the shadow of a streetlamp — only their backs visible — were the very image of Brassaï’s Paris de nuit. Beneath that coat, I wonder, was she wearing a crimson dress?
Materiality & Context
Miuccia Prada described this legendary collection as a “cinematic character study subverting male archetypes” and a parody of male power. Often celebrated in fashion history as the “Villains Show”, it utilized strict, double-breasted military-inspired tailoring to project authority.
In this illustration, I sought to capture the exact moment when the materiality of the heavy tailored coat transforms from a mere fashion item into a profound costume of storytelling. The precise linework emphasizes the cinematic tension and the undeniable presence of the wearer, proving that fashion is, ultimately, a vehicle for narrative.
